David Guttenfelder, an Associated Press photographer, was embedded with US forces during the offensive in Marjah, Afghanistan, the largest military offensive in the country since 2001. While the photographer shot image using his usual gear, he also used an iPhone to shoot a series of photographs that are now part of a multimedia slideshow - Depth of Field: Afghanistan - presented by AP.

"These photographs, shot with an iPhone I carried in my flak jacket pocket, are not about the fight for Marjah," Guttenfelder says. "Instead, they are an attempt, during my downtime, to show something of the daily lives of Marines and Afghan soldiers as they moved through the city and set down their packs each evening in a harsh, isolated place."

See the slideshow on the Associated Press website here.

It's terrible that it becomes acceptable now to use cheap iphone image manipulation software like Poladroid as a "professional" photographer, that are barely acceptable for your Facebook family album. If you want the look of a Polaroid take a fucking Polaroid camera and some of the remaining film. If you take pictures with an iPhone, learn to live with the limitations. But please be sincere, stay true to your medium and don't hide it behind cheap effects. Even more so when you are shooting a topic which is so important.
