BJP's photography rights campaign

Author:

Diane Smyth

The BJP has launched a visual petition in response to the growing number of photographers being stopped under anti-terror legislation. The campaign is designed to raise awareness and help change public perception at a potential turning point.

Amateur and professional photographers alike are urged to submit pictures of themselves holding white plaques with the phrases ‘I am not a terrorist’ or ‘Not a crime’ written on them. These self-portraits should then be submitted to the specially created flickr group. BJP aims to gather thousands of these e-‘signatures’ over the coming year as a protest against the increasing restrictions photographers face.

Will you be creating a logo or banner for folks to use on their websites?

Everyone needs strike. Refuse to photograph those who passed these laws (all in Parliament), and those who implement them. Dont buy papers or magazines that include such images. Turn offf the news- you dont benefit in any way listening you know!

Let those who govern know by your absence and indifference to their very existence, that they are superfluous to the cultural, (as well as moral and role model requirements) of our society;

Spend time trying to improve the chances of long-term sucess by forcing editors to publish your best work fearlessly, after they have ALL had and passed a test similar to the one Diane Airbrush put Bill Jay through!

And ask yourselves seriously folks, whether still photography of news events is anyway any use when film does the job so much BETTER!
