In the streets of New York with Bruce Gilden
Olivier Laurent
Check out this video of Magnum Photographer Bruce Gilden hunting for characters on the Streets of New York City. The video is produced by WNYC radio, which had a street photography project a few months back.

A great insight into Bruce's working methods. But it does make me wonder how any street photographer can work in such a way without upsetting at least some members of the public or drawing unwanted attention from authorities. Not a criticism, just an observation
Why does he bother? His pictures are mediocre: in no way can he be compared with Cartier-Bresson. Being so intrusive must annoy many and it is a wonder he is still doing it after so many years. How often has he been assaulted? Why doesn't he stand back and shoot with a longer lens and not use flash? I am sure he would get more interesting shots. In short, I am surprised that Magnum want to be associated with him. Mind you, I feel the same way about Martin Parr!
Bruce has chutzpha. His images, the few that were in the vid are "interesting" . I don't find it to be my style. In fact it makes me rather uncomfortable having lived most of my span in small college towns. baba
@ John Fryer. That is the worst advice ever, no real street photographer stands back with a long lens and doesn't use flash. Those that do are the camera club calibre of photographer and can be found a plenty on flickr and Dpreview. Gilden doesn't need to join their ranks.
I don't think anybody can compare him to Bresson either, both are totally different photographers. Have you considered that you don't understand him and his style?
