Live from Photokina: Fuji's Medium-Format film camera in pictures

Fujifilm has shown a prototype of its GF670, a medium-format film camera expected to be released in 2009.

The GF670 is a portable folding camera jointly developed by Fujifilm and Cosina. It features a mechanism for switching between two film formats, 6x7cm and 6x6cm (120 and 220 films). Read our full story here.

Definitely I'm going to buy this camera since Fuji and Cosina did decide to add 6X6 format. Excellent decision!

As Cosina have already produced a 35mm camera inspired by the Leica, I suppose it's not surprising that they should be working on a rollfilm camera that looks rather like a Super Ikonta.

It's an interesting design. although I'm not sure that a camera like this needs autofocus. If only 220 film was more easily available...

Great move indeed. Wonder why this was not ready for Photokina? Can't be rocketscience to design it. Perhaps this will inspire Zeiss Oberkochen to respond with a REAL modern Super Ikonta with a Zeiss Planar or Biogon for one of their next anniversaries....

I have thought for some time that what many professional and serious amateur photographs who love medium format film photography would really like is a medium format equivalent of a Contax G2. Auto focus, through the lens metering, excellent lenses, readily portable and comparatively discrete. The Mamiya 7, and I had one, although having some virtues was, in my view, a missed opportunity. Although I look forward to the release of this camera, I fear that for me and I expect for many others, it may be another missed opportunity.
