Who's next: Is that not exactly our problem 'elephant in the room'?
With the exception of the handful of star photographers you publicise in BJP, photography as a career is dead. In every sector - commercial, press, PR, weddings, portraits - you name it, I have anecdotal and my own evidence to show that I would rather put my daughter on the stage than set her off as a photographer because the odds of her ever earning a DECENT living are much higher. One of the very best commercial photographers I know, based in SE England,is currently gardening three days a week to make ends meet. Most of the provincial 'big names' are trying to survive by setting up teaching courses aimed at bringing more semi-pro and rank amateurs into the profession. 'Fess up guys, photography has never been healthier but times aren't just tough, we pros are dinosaurs.
