panasonic + canon = nothing new

Nothing new here. Filmmakers have used Panasonic cameras with Canon HD broadcast lenses for years. For something recent, the BBC Life series 'making of' segments show the film teams using Panasonic HD cams and Canon lenses.

But still ... kinda funny using an all Canon sys to film this.

Amusing

Amusing it is - but hardly surprising. After all, it's probably not Panasonic themselves who shoot their ads, but rather some agency/studio - and I doubt they'd swap their entire kit and workflow _behind_ the camera, just to please their customer...

production as usual

I work in the television business in Hollywood and it's very common for production teams or camera operators to use they're own gear when hired. Many times the crews/camera ops will also receive a rental fee for their gear. So Panasonic hires an ad agency, the ad agency hires a production company, and the production company hires freelance crew members who use their own gear to shoot the video.

Missing the point..?

Guys, anyone in the pro arena knows this, but that's not really the point is it? It's all about Pana raving on about these consumer products being the best thing since sliced bread, and being better than traditional SLRs, yet showing customers that they still cannot compete in the SLR market.

Big own goal for Panasonic

I have to say I agree with Mario. Panasonic's PRs should have known that if they didn't insist on using Panasonic cameras for the shoot, it was going to come back an bite them. Especially as they apparently commissioned a behind-the-scenes documentary about it.

What WERE they thinking?? I bet at least one head has rolled on this by now...

Oh, and if anybody from Panasonic is reading this, I'm sorry to rub salt in the wound, guys, but I'm in the market for a new video-capable DSLR system. Until I saw this, the GH1 was on my shortlist, as was the Canon 7D. Guess which one remains on my shortlist...?

Haha

I have seen an ad on tv for another brnad of camera that comes back to this topic. Its a miniature poket camera - and the selling point is that the ad itself was shot using this pocket camera. Brilliant!

Embarrassing but....

Im a Tokyo based photo assistant and work mainly on major campaigns and this kind of thing happens all the time. On recent shoots for Microsoft and Dell everyone on set (apart from the client) is using macs.

I was really surprised on recent shoot for Nikon that the photog was actually using the consumer level camera that the photographs were supposed to be taken with. Shocked! I couldnt get over it. (of course half the shoot had to be reshot.)
