Ektar?
I've shot a little Ektar and whilst it has its strengths (the grain certainly is extremely fine) it's not slide film, and it doesn't look like slide film. Transparencies are just magic...but that's not a good business case.
If the loss of Sensia means we get to keep the Velvia and Provia films for longer, then maybe it's worthwhile.

Slide film
I still prefer slide film to anything else out there, including the best that digital has to offer. Film companies, instead of being careless about the whole thing, should keep advertising their film products and letting the new crop of photographers know about the benefits. One of the reasons digital (an inferior product in many ways) has taken over is because consumers are being told there's no meaningful alternative.... which is just not true.

A sad day indeed
Terrible news. Sensia had just that perfect tonality... Another great one bites the dust. I guess all we will have left pretty soon is nostalgia.

Slide Film RIP
Yes I have to agree that Sensia was a very good film.
However Fuji are not alone in being short sited to the point of being blind.
The 'Yellow god'i s guilty of the same offence. Kodachrome one of the finest films ever made, was discontinued, because there is so much hype about digital photography. There is no way that a correctly exposed digital image can compete with a correctly exposed transparency.
Yes I do use a digital camera, but i also use film cameras both 35mm and medium format.
The good news however is that you can get very good second hand film camera equipment at silly prices if one shops carefully .
Like our other correspondents I hope that the short sited manufacturers will realise that film photography still has a huge following worldwide.
