That main picture sums it up...
Come on now,that main heading picture 'The Day' sums up where photography has gone today...Standing outside some night club waiting for Miss X to stumble out could bring in more money in one scoop,and be seen by more people,than some poor photographer work after trekking across Africa or wherever (name your assignment),that the general public have time to read these days-except the elite few.
Besides the days of Picture Post have long gone.
In a world of short memories,photoshopped to blazes,the frivolous rules the waves from every top,medium shelf in your local newsagent.
Am I knocking it,no,join them because it's where the money lays.
If you want to put your life at risk,hitch up your backpak,load your million pounds worth of gear,and set off and put the world to right..fine.And the best of luck..
But next time you are in a newsagents just look up upon the shelves and tell yourself what do you see..Yes,the mags are fighting for survival.Let's be frank about it!
