Simply because twitpic doesn't strip copyright metadata. Or at least, as of 5 minutes ago, it didn't.

Mr Bruggmann is correct, Twitpic does not strip out metadata.

I think context is all important here. Morel was working under extreme pressure in Haiti in the immediate aftermath of the earthquake and wasn't going to mess around trying to find the most cost effective upload site for his photos. He just wanted to get them out quickly to show the world to help the people of Haiti in their crisis and then someone comes along and steals his photos. To add insult to injury AFP claim he is defaming them.

I would have thought all photographers with a conscience would back Morel and show support for the good work he has done.
