Nikon 5D ?

"Commissioned to produce a film for the 12th Venice Architecture Biennale, he constructed a prototype 3D filming rig comprising of two Nikon 5D cameras and produced a 20-minute film installation about the Rolex Learning Center in Switzerland."

Good - but not great

Interesting piece. I first saw 'Alice in the Cities' around abut 1980 and particulary that opening scene captures something about the precious, lonely act of photographing. I was inspired by it. Wenders is a phenomenolly gifted director.

But while I like his visual sensibility his stills photography is decidely average. You can see his books go cheap on amazon marketplace but even so I never can bring myself to fork out just a few quid for them. Like Diane Keaton, Micheal Stipe, Dennis Hopper and a host of other celebs who take photographs they are fully capable, know what they are doing but can't quite impress in the same way the really great photographers have done - the innovative, driven ones the rest of us emulate, imitate, acknowledge.

I'd argue that if the photography wasn't by Wim Wenders it would not have been shown at The Pompidou or The Haunch or Venison - or written about here in the BJP.
