Hertfordshire-based Spike has been a commercial photographer for more than 25 years. Earlier this year, he applied to be part of the One&Other art project that sees people stand on the fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square for one hour at a time.
'I saw the time on the plinth as a chance to take some pictures, just for the fun of it, of the square from a unique perspective which will probably never be available again,' says Spike. 'My idea is to take a camera and a tripod up there with me and as it will be dark, do some creative time exposure shots of the square.'
He continues: 'It will also give me a chance to promote the rights of photographers to take photos in public. I shall use my hour to publicise the British Journal of Photography's "Not A Crime" campaign, more details of which can be found at www.not-a-crime.com.'
The campaign was launched to raise awareness of increasing restrictions on shooting in public. Already more than 550 photographers - both professionals and amateurs - have pledged their support by submitting portraits of themselves holding 'I am not a terrorist' and 'Not a Crime' signs.
Spike, who will be on the Trafalgar Square's plinth on Sunday 02 August from 10pm. He will be displaying one of BJP's 'Not A Crime' signs for the campaign.
BJP invites all to attend the event to show their support towards photographers' rights to take photos in public. For more information about Spike Brown, visit www.bluefeather.co.uk. For more details on the 'Not A Crime' campaign, visit www.not-a-crime.com.
