The prestigious photo agency is also said to have welcomes two new nominees, however, names have yet to be communicated.
Photographers, before becoming full members, must have been invited as nominees by the agency. They usually spend two years under that status before being able to apply for associateship for another two years, on average. Only then can they become members of the celebrated agency.
This year, after meeting in New York for its annual general meeting, Magnum's photographers have voted to welcome Chris Anderson as a full member. Anderson joined Magnum in 2005, after a three-year stint at VII Photo. He first started in photography at the Dallas Morning News' photo lab before being hired as a staff photographer for a Colorado newspaper. In 1995, he became a freelance photographer, before joining US News and World Report as a contract photographer. He documented "social issues such as the effects of Russia's economic crisis, the situation of Afghan refugees in Pakistan and, more recently, the election of Evo Morales in Bolivia," says Magnum Photos. Anderson now works in black-and-white.
Jacob Aue Sobol joined Magnum as a nominee in 2007. He is now an associate member. Since 2006, Sobol has been working from Tokyo where he created his book I, Tokyo, which won the Leica European Publishers Award 2008.The photographer was a keynote speaker at BJP's Vision08 event.
Magnum has also added two nominees - Dominic Nahr and Moises Saman. Read our full report here.
