Social media in the spotlight at Rhubarb-Rhubarb

Roll up, roll up for a panel debate on social media, featuring the official Election Artist Simon Roberts

Author: Diane Smyth

Bookings are open now for a very special panel discussion at Rhubarb-Rhubarb's forthcoming event, Collision - Where Image Worlds Meet.

Collision - Where Social Media Meets Fine Art...Or Not...promises to be a lively dissection of social media's impact on images and image-makers. It features Simon Roberts, who, as the official Election Artist, used blogs and online image galleries to gather amateurs' shots this year. He's joined by Christain Payne, a freelance mobile media maker who also specialises in social media & photography, and Mark McPherson is a 35 year old artist and art-photography entrepreneur. "Our speakers will talk about the way they used social media to enhance projects, build business and operate globally while in remote places," writes Rhubarb-Rhubarb. "They will bring tales about politics, creativity, communities and comedic situations and give you an insider's view on how it's all worked for them."

The event takes place at 1pm on 29 July, in the Adrian Cadbury Lecture Theatre at Aston Business School, Birmingham, and costs £20, or £15 for photographers taking part in the International Portfolio Review, the main attraction of the Collision programme. A limited number of places are still left for the review, which will include BJP's Simon Bainbridge and Diane Smyth.
