Graeme Chapman, the former European president of consumer products at Olympus, has been appointed by Summit Global Group to head up the newly-revived Polaroid UK. Summit Global Group is the current owner of the Polaroid license.

Chapman, who worked for almost three decades at Olympus, brings with him Andy Cochrane, Olympus' former UK sales director. "Both Chapman and Cochrane left Olympus in 2008 following a move to combine the two management teams of the firm’s medical and consumer businesses," says Summit Global.

"I’m thrilled to be a part of reigniting the Polaroid brand with a new UK structure and management team," says Chapman in a statement. "Andy and I have worked together for near thirty years and I feel confident we can set Polaroid back amongst its competitors and instil confidence in the brand for both retailers and consumers. We will be concentrating on the brand’s strategy, its retail positioning and looking closely at its UK marketing. We have an exciting time ahead of us."

The UK branch of Polaroid entered into administration in March last year, as a direct result of Polaroid US filing for bankruptcy in December 2008. The Hertfordshire-based company used to distribute digital imaging and electronics products under license from Polaroid Corporation. It incorporated in the UK in 1962, according to BJP's sister publication Accountancy Age. At the height of its success, Polaroid employed more than 850 people in the UK. But, as of March 2009, it had only three employees left in the country.

The Polaroid brand and assets have now been acquired by Summit Global Group.
