British firm introduces new inkjet paper designed to give black-and-white prints that old school darkroom feel.

Fotospeed is adding to its award-winning Platinum range of inkjet media with a new baryta-based paper designed for black-and-white output.

The 300gsm paper contains barium sulphate, which has long been used in traditional photographic papers, but is increasingly being employed for inkjet output because of the smooth, reflective, “unglazed” glossy finish it lends, and because of its a natural base colour, reminiscent of prints made in the darkroom.

Fotospeed’s Platinum Baryta 300gsm will be launched worldwide at the Photokina trade show later next month, but it is available now exclusively to UK customers.

“This new paper gives the deepest blacks whilst keeping the most delicate highlights with smooth transitions... all resulting in the traditional Baryta darkroom look and feel from an inkjet paper,” claims the Brirish-based firm.

It is available in cut sheet sizes from A4 to A2, and 15m roll widths from 17- to 60-inch. Fotospeed adds that it offers free custom ICC profiles on all its papers.

You can try the paper for free by calling Fotospeed on 01249 714555 and quoting the reference PB01, and mentioning you saw this through British Journal of Photography, to receive a two-sheet sample.
