Nikon unveils two new cameras and updates its View NX software to add movie editing.

Nikon has updated its View NX software, which comes bundled with its DSLR and compact cameras, adding basic movie editing tools and revamping the user interface.

Version 2 allows users to trim and then merge clips together, apply transition effects, and add still images and audio soundtracks, in addition to its existing applications for downloading images, processing raw files, browsing picture collections and output for print.

The user interface has been improved, says Nikon, by making its tools and layout more intuitive and customisable. A geo tag has been added to help organise images on a map.

View NX 2 is free to Nikon users to download.

Nikon is also announcing two new Coolpix compacts, including a new version of its projector camera. The S1100pj’s14-lumen built-in projector is 40% brighter than its predecessor, says Nikon, and can now be linked directly to a computer. In addition, it has a 14.1-megapixel sensor, and a 5x wide-angle zoom.

It is joined by the Coolpix S5100, a slim-sized 12.2-megapixel camera that has been designed to improve action and nighttime shooting with a range of automised features including a VR lens and “enhanced Motion Detection” system.

Pricing has yet to be announced for the S5100, nor has availability. The S1100pj (pictured above) arrives on 16 September, priced under £350.
