Sony unveils plans for future of Alpha and NEX ranges

Sony has, in a press conference at the Photokina trade show, unveiled its plans for the future of the Alpha and NEX ranges of cameras - Video

Sony plans to replace its pro-sumer Alpha digital SLR - the A700 - with a new model, slated for 2011, which will feature the new Translucent Mirror Technology, says Toru Katsumoto, senior general manager for Sony Personal Imaging and Sound Business Group.

The Translucent Mirror Technology was first introduced last month in the A55 and A33 camera. The technology allows for a more compact design and improved autofocus performances, says Sony.

The new advanced camera, which has yet to be named, is still in the prototype stage, says Sony.

Katsumoto, also revealed that Sony will introduce in 2011 and 2012, seven new lenses for the E-mount NEX system, as well as a new 500mm telephoto lens for the Alpha system. For more details, watch the full video below:

There's no A700

a700 has been discontinued long ago.....its actually the best camera around. Too good! Can't wait for the a77......REALLY CANT WAIT!
