German lens maker Schneider Kreuznach has announced two new tilt-and-shift lenses for full-frame sensor digital SLRs and one for the Mamiya/Phase One system

Author: Olivier Laurent

Unveiled at the Photokina trade show in Germany last week, the new tilt-and-shift lenses have been designed to offer high-quality alternatives to lenses released by Canon, Nikon, and Phase One for their respective systems, and are also compatible with Sony's and Pentax's full-frame cameras.

The PC-TS Super-Angulon 2.8/50 HM and the PC-TS Makro-Symmar 4.0/90 HM can both be used with full-frame sensor DSLRs. "The high-resolution optics are combined with a precise, zero-play mechanism," says Schneider Kreuznach. Both lenses, which offers focal length of 50mm and 90mm respectively, allow for a lateral shift of 12mm on each side and a tilt angle of eight degrees.

The Macro Symmar lens uses six glass elements in four groups and has a minimum focusing distance of 60cm, while the Super Angulon model has a minimum focusing distance of 65cm. It is composed of nine glass elements and weighs 1200g.

Both lenses are expected to retail from €2800 +VAT and €2700 +VAT, according to a spokesman. UK pricing has yet to be confirmed.

The PC-TS Apo-Digitar 5.6/120 HM Aspheric lens "combines exceptional reproduction quality with a large image circle and excellent adjustability which is restricted only by the camera's bayonet mount," claims Schneider Kreuznach. It will retail from €3900 +VAT.

All three lenses will be released in 2011.

Nothing here for architecture

Sounds great. A bit of choice in the tilt shift market is never a bad thing. Just a pity there are no wide angle lenses here (say a 24 or a 17mm). The new lenses would be great for still life and products, but they won't be of much use for architecture. Wonder if these will come next?

Wide angle.

There is Schneider 28mm f2.8 tilt shift super angulon on the market. On B&H for example.

Wide angle: correction

The Schneider 28mm f/2.8 Super Angulon only has shift, not tilt.
