Magnum Photos is organising a two-day event aimed at providing professional guidance to the "next generation of photographers," with a particular emphasis on book publishing, stock sales, social networking and commercial photography

Author: Olivier Laurent

The Magnum Professional Practice event will take place on 30 and 31 October in Southwark London. Featuring eight high-profile speakers, the week-end will be composed of a series of lectures and discussions on topics such as "social networking and web promotion, book publishing, editorial features, commercial photography, stock sale photographs, photographic print sales and exhibition structures," says Magnum.

The speakers include Monica Allende, picture editor of the Sunday Times Magazine; David Birkitt, managing director of DMB Media; David Hurn, a Magnum photographer; Steve Macleod, creative director of Metro Imaging; social technologist Christian Payne; Chris Barwick, UK sales director for licensing and stock; Michael Mack, publisher at Steidl/Mack; Fiona Rogers, cultural and education coordinator at Magnum; and Magnum's cultural director Sophie Wright.

"Participation in this event will be limited and successful candidates will be chosen on the basis of their photographic experience and the perceived benefit to the applicant's career," says Magnum. "This event is not aimed at beginners and applicants should have a high level of photographic aptitude. We recommend attendees have been published or exhibited at least twice during their careers."

The event costs £350+VAT. However, BJP readers can get a 10% discount if they quote "BJP" when booking.
