Kodak releases 8x10 version of new film

Kodak Portra 400

Less than two months after announcing the release of the Portra 400 film in the 35mm, 120 and 4x5 formats, Kodak has announced that the new film will also be available in 8x10

In September, Kodak announced the discontinuation of its Professional Portra 400NC and 400VC films, which were replaced by the new Portra 400 film, specifically designed for scanning and enlargements uses. The new film offers "beautiful, natural skin tones and superb colour reproduction," claims Kodak.

The new film, which launches this month, is available in the 35mm, 120 and 4x5 formats. However, Kodak has now announced that it will also make the Portra 400 film available in 8x10. The news shows Kodak's "ongoing commitment to film photography," claims Kodak, at a time when the firm believes there is "a real resurgence for film," as Scott DiSabato, US marketing manager for Professional film at Kodak, told BJP in September.

The new Portra 400 film uses Kodak's Vision film technology as well as Antenna Dye Sensitisation in the cyan and magenta emulsion layers to achieve its fine grain, says Kodak. "It is an ideal choice for portrait and fashion photography, as well as nature, travel and outdoor photography, where the action is fast or the lighting can’t be controlled."
