Panos Pictures has launched an international call for submissions from photographers who want to join the agency

Author: Diane Smyth

Do you want to join the agency that represents Stephan Vanfletern, Paul Lowe and George Georgiou? If so, Panos Pictures wants to hear from you.

The London-based agency has launched an international call for submissions from photojournalists and documentary photographers. Photographers have until 01 March 2011 to send three of their stories plus a short text about themselves on a single CD to SUBMISSIONS, Panos Pictures, 1 Honduras Street, London EC1Y 0TH. The images will be judged by two members of staff at Panos and two Panos Profile photographers, and the final decision will be announced at the end of April. For more information about submitting your work, click here.

Panos represents 76 photographers in its Network and 22 in its Profile group, including more than 25 World Press Photo Winners. The agency specialises in "global social issues", and helps photographers put together books, exhibitions and multimedia projects as well as traditional stories, and also licenses stock images. The agency works with clients such as the FT Magazine and Amnesty International, and takes a commission of 25% on commissions that it wins for photographers and 50% on stock image sales.

Panos is happy to receive multimedia projects in its submissions and is particularly keen to see work by photographers from Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East but will make its final decision based solely on the quality of the work submitted, says Adrian Evans, director of Panos. "We might take on six photographers, we might take on none," he says. "It entirely depends. But we want to see work that tells a strong story, as so many projects just don't. That's why we've asked photographers to submit a text stating basically who they are, what they want to say, and who they want to say it to."

Panos

Another dinosaur agency puts out the begging bowl and dresses it up like they're doing you a big favour.

Panos

That doesn't seem an entirely fair comment in this case. Aren't they the photo agency partner of the Panos London charity? http://www.panos.org.uk

Panos

Hello Philip, I'm the Editor at Panos Pictures.
You are right - the Panos Institute owns 50% of Panos Pictures, and half of the photo agency's profits go to the charity to support their work training journalists in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
