The partnership will see Technicolor and Canon collaborate in the development of a suite of creative tools for cinematographers "to facilitate greater usability and integration of Canon EOS DSLR cameras into the motion picture and television production pipeline," both companies have announced

"The new suite of creative tools will be inaugurated with Technicolor's CineStyle, that coupled with Technicolor's Digital Printer Lights will provide a more seamless pipeline, from principal photography into editorial, for projects filmed using Canon EOS DSLR cameras," says Technicolor. "Technical tests have been conducted with various camera-lens configurations under the supervision of Technicolor color-scientists with a number of renowned cinematographers."

The partnership comes more than two years after Canon released the EOS 5D Mark II, which has democratised the use of DSLRs in filmmaking.

"Technicolor has closely followed the adoption of Canon's DSLR cameras into the ranks of professional productions," says Technicolor's chief marketing officer, Ahmad Ouri, in a prepared statement. "We remain committed to cinematographers as they adopt new tools and techniques, and, based on the requests we've received from many of our creative clients, we have worked with Canon to provide a stable path, originating with these cameras and flowing effortlessly into our post pipeline."

Technicolor's CineStyle will be unveiled at the National Association of Broadcasters Show in Las Vegas next week. It will be showcased on Canon's booth.

Apple is also expected to use the show's Final Cut Pro User Group SuperMeet to unveil the latest version of its popular video editing suite. According to SuperMeet's organisers, Apple has asked for exclusive use of the event to unveil "something special" on 12 April.

BJP understands that Canon has also worked with Apple to ensure compatibility of Final Cut Pro with its DSLRs.
