The Richard Avedon Foundation has signed an exclusive, worldwide deal that will see the Gagosian Gallery represent all of the photographer's work

The Richard Avedon Foundation is a private operating institution, created by Avedon before his death, designed to protect his legacy and his work. While the photographer's work used to be represented by a number of galleries such as the Fraenkel Gallery in San Francisco, the Foundation has now elected to trust all of Avedon's images to the Gagosian Gallery.

"It's a huge privilege for us to represent one of the masters of 20th century art," says Larry Gagosian in a statement.

Paul Roth, the foundation's executive director, adds: "We're very happy to work with the Gagosian Gallery in New York and across the world. We believe that Avedon will be remarkably represented alongside the numerous modern and contemporary masters shown [in the gallery]."

The news comes six months after an auction of some of Avedon's work set new records at Christie's.
