John Walshe is set to become Nikon UK's new general manager for the company's Imaging Division from 05 September, "bringing with him a wealth of experience which spans management, sales and marketing disciplines", says Nikon in a statement.

Walshe's appointment comes a year after Simon Coleman quit Nikon "to pursue other interests". Walshe joins from World Flowers Ltd, where he was managing director. He has also worked for companies such as coffee-maker Tchibo and Mars.

As Nikon UK's new general manager, Walshe will be responsible for 70 employees, and will work closely with Michio Miwa, president of Nikon UK, as well as finance director John Read.

Walshe's main responsibility will be to help the Nikon "achieve its business goal of being number one in the UK imaging market," says the firm.

"We are delighted that John has accepted the position and welcome his experience as a means of strengthening the brand," adds Miwa. "John joins Nikon at a pivotal point in its history as the company seeks to grow market share in a challenging and changing market. The future looks very positive for Nikon UK and we are confident that we will achieve our business goals. We look forward to introducing John to key stakeholders in due course."
