The Sony SLT-A77 digital SLR uses the same Translucent Mirror Technology first introduced by Sony with its A33 and A55 cameras. However, the A77 is said to be targeted at prosumers - replacing the A700.

It features a new Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor with a resolution of 24.3 megapixels resolution and has the "world's fastest continuous autofocus shooting performance, capturing a burst of full-resolution images at 12fps," claims Sony.

The A77 uses precision AF tracking technology which features 19 autofocus points with 11 cross sensors. "Tracking Focus maintains accurate focus lock on a designated moving subject," says Sony.

The camera has an ISO range of 100 to 16,000, expandable to ISO 50, and a Quick AF Full-HD video mode, which can now record at the 50p frame rate, in addition to 25p for a "filmic" feel, according to Sony.

The A77 is also dust and moisture resistant.

The A65, which has also been introduced today, shares many of the A77's features, including its 24.3-megapixel sensor and OLED viewfinder, however, it has a burst rate of 10fps and a 15-point AF with three cross sensors.

Both cameras will be released in October. The A77 will retail at price of £1150 body only or £1650 with the new 16-50mm lens (more details soon). The A65 will retail at £800 body only or £900 with a standard 18-55mm kit lens.

BJP will have more details later today on the cameras' new features.
