The London Art Fair is back, and will once again include a showcase of contemporary photography through 50 works selected and curated by writer Sue Steward

Author: Joanna Cresswell

Taking place from 18 to 22 January, the London Art Fair returns for another year with a number of photographic events on the calendar.

Photo50 is the Fair's annual showcase of contemporary photography in which 50 works are exhibited each year. This years show, curated by writer and curator Sue Steward, is titled The New Alchemists. It sees contemporary photography transcending the print, with each artist adorning, transforming or defacing the photographic print in some way. The selected photographers and artists include Julie Cockburn, Veronica Bailey and David Birkin.

The event will take place at the Business Design Centre in Islington and many of the works on show will be for sale.

"These artists are each virtuosos of their craft, but the photographic print is not necessarily the end-point of their work," says Steward. "Partially destroyed, decorated, re-built, or created with a focus on process over product, the photograph takes on a new dimension and becomes an original art work in its own right."

There will also be a Photography Focus Day on Wednesday 18 January that aims to examine contemporary photographic practice and will include debates, discussions and tours - all free to those with tickets.

London Art Fair is offering all British Journal of Photography readers two tickets for the price of one. Standard advance ticket prices are £11 plus £1.50 booking fee. Use the promotional code LAF172 when booking.
