Photographer Lauren Greenfield and her husband Frank Evers of Institute, as well as the Sundance Film Festival are being sued for defamation by the Florida developer David Siegel, the subject of Greenfield's latest documentary - "The Queen of Versailles"

As revealed by The Salt Lake Tribune, David Siegel and his company Westgate Resorts are alleging that a press release sent to describe Lauren Greenfield's latest documentary film has defamed him.

The film - The Queen of Versailles - follows David and Jacqueline Siegel "as they built a 90,000-square-foot mansion just as Westgate was riding the storms of the global financial crisis," reports The Salt Lake Tribune.

However, in a press release sent when the movie was selected for the Sundance Film Festival, the producers, which includes Frank Evers, director of the Institute for Artist Management, described the film as "rags-to-riches-to-rags story [that] reveals the innate virtues and flaws of the American dream." The original press release also adds that the film shows Siegel's timeshare empire "collapse" and his house being "foreclosed."

Siegel argues that the statement are defamatory, and is now seeking $75,000 in damages from Sundance and $75,000 from Greenfield and her husband. Siegel is also requesting unspecified punitive damages.

Although the description has now been revised, Siegel argues that the damage is done, with The Salt Lake Tribune reporting that the description has appeared on more than 12,000 websites.

Reached by BJP, the filmmakers say they have no comment at this time.
