The Social is back this evening, with a look at grants and how to get them
Author: Diane Smyth
The Social, the monthly get-together run by BJP and The Photographers' Gallery, is back with an evening of tips on writing grant applications.
The evening will feature talks by Teresa Drace-Francis, until recently a Visual Arts Officer at Arts Council England, and the photographer Jo Longhurst.
Longhurst, who studied for a PhD at the Royal College of Arts and is now a Leverhulme Fellow at the European Centre for Photographic Research, has long experience of successfully applying for grants to support her work.
Her current project is an Artists' Symposium on Perfection supported by Arts Council England and the Leverhulme Trust, which will take place at the Whitechapel Gallery on 02 and 03 February and include presentations by Charlotte Cotton, creative director of the Media Space, and David Evans, senior lecturer in the History and Theory of Photography at the University Arts College in Bournemouth. The symposium costs £25/£20 for one day, or £40/£30 concessions for the whole event.
The Social is an informal get-together for photographers held from 6.30pm-8.30pm on the last Monday of every month at Barrio Central, 06 Poland Street, London W1F 8PS. The event is free and open to all. Past events have included photographer Simon Roberts talking about online marketing, and Simon Norfolk talking about relaunching his career as an art photographer.
