Young photographers can win the chance to publish and exhibit their work and claim one of three £1000 prizes in a new award established by Eureka, The Times’ monthly science magazine, in association with the Royal Institution and Science Photo Library.

The awards aim to promote the idea that photography makes science come to life, and entrants are invited to find a subject that has an interesting science, technology, architecture, environment or engineering angle, and photograph or film it in a compelling way. There will be three winners in total, but the overall victor will be commissioned by Eureka for a shoot that will be featured in the magazine and exhibited at the Royal Institution in June 2012.

Any photographer based in the UK or ROI and aged between 18-26 is eligible to enter, whether a student, professional or non-professional, and copyright of all images stays with the photographer, although images entered into the competition may be used to publicise it.

The judging panel includes: Jon Jones, director of photography at The Sunday Times Magazine; Jim Al-Khalili, a physicist, author and broadcaster; award-winning photographer Giles Revell; editor of the Science Photo Library, Rose Taylor; and Madeleine Penny, picture editor of Eureka. The closing date for entries is 30 April.
