According to a diplomat, quoted by Reuters, Paul Conroy is now "safe and sound" in Lebanon following a secret rescue operation. It remains unclear whether Edith Bouvier and photographer William Daniels were rescued as well.
Le Monde, citing Syrian opposition sources, claims that Bouvier has also been transferred to Lebanon. However, the French Foreign Affairs Ministry has refused to confirm her evacuation, says BFM TV in France.
The rescue operation comes a week after the photographer was injured in an attack that claimed the lives of Marie Colvin and French photographer Rémi Ochlik. The two reporters died after a shell hit a makeshift media centre in the Baba Amr area.
