Time running out to enter Pierre & Alexandra Boulat Award

Photographers have just one day left to apply for the Pierre & Alexandra Boulat Association Award, worth €8000

Author: Eimear Kelly

The award is given to a photographer "who wishes to cover a social, economic, political or cultural issue in a journalistic manner", but can't find support for their story within the media.

The winner will receive €8000 in two installments: the first one at the Visa Pour l'Image photojournalism festival in Perpignan; and the second after completing his or her project.

A jury of "magazine editors, book publishers, photographers and curators" will determine the winner "based on the professional qualities of the applicant and the relevance and originality of the project".

Applicants must be professional photographers, who have completed at least one photo- reportage, and are capable of writing in and speaking French or English. Entry is free, and photographers must submit a letter describing the photo-reportage project, a projected budget and a portfolio of 10-20 pictures.

Applicants must also agree not to present the same project for any other award until the winner is announced in July.

Application dossiers can be downloaded from viiphoto.com/association.html.

[Note: Although the above link asks for all entries to be sent by 10 June, the deadline has actually been extended to 20 June.]

[UPDATE: It has come to our attention that several photographers who tried to submit their entries on 20 June were told they had missed the 10 June deadline. BJP had been informed by the organisers of the Pierre & Alexandra Boulat Association Award that the entry form contained several mistakes and the actual deadline for entries was 20 June, not 10 June. As it now appears, this information was wrong. Although, we can't speak for the association, BJP would like to apologise to our readers for the misunderstanding.]
