Phase One and Mamiya Leaf have introduced the 645DF+ camera platform, an update to the 645DF Phase One first presented in 2009

Author: Olivier Laurent

The 645DF+ is said to have been completely redesigned, with an "overhaul of all moving parts to produce a camera with the highest uptime in the market of high-end photography".

Similarly to its predecessor, it supports both focal plane and leaf shutter lenses, offers exposures of up to 60 minutes to as fast as 1/4000s, and facilitates flash synchronisation speeds of up to 1/1600s with leaf shutter lenses from Schneider Kreuznach, says Phase One.

The 645DF+, however, now features an enhanced autofocus that "delivers accurately focused images fast, even when shooting in low light or low contrast", according to the Danish firm. "And with an all-new custom adjustment feature, photographers can fine-tune the alignment of digital backs to the camera. With this photographers can easily match their focus preference."

The new model also sports a new "high-powered" rechargeable Li-ion battery, which can support up to 10,000 captures on a single charge.

The 645DF+ is available under the Phase One and Mamiya Leaf brand names, both models retailing from October at €4290/ $5990. The platform is compatible with more than 50 different digital medium format backs, as well as 80 different lenses. The platform will also be available in a variety of bundles, with Phase One's IQ digital backs or Mamiya Leaf's Credo backs.

Both brands, which share the same shareholders, have also released a new 28mm LS f/4.5 Aspherical lens, manufactured by Mamiya and designed by Schneider Kreuznach. The lens offers a viewing angle of 102°, has a minimum focusing distance of only 35cm and a flash synchronisation capability of 1/1600s, making it ideal for landscape, architecture and cityscape photography, says Phase One.

The lens will also retail from October at €4290 / $5990.

Awww...C'mon

"The 645DF+ is said to have been completely redesigned,..."

Nyu huh. But you told me that my 645DF was a complete redesign of the Mamiya 645 AFD II.

The 645DF+ looks just like my 645DF, It doesn't have a genuine wood grip, jeweled knobs, or any cool chrome work.

Naw, my 645DF is fine, AA battery cluster and all. My new money's going towards a Leica M and a NEXelblad Woody!

(Some Photokinas produce fun siliness.)
