BJP International Photography Award

In partnership with the Association of Photographers Sponsored by Spectrum Photographic, Leaf, Peartree, Sigma and Colt Press

> BJP IPA > Entry > Prize > Sponsors > Past winners

HOW TO ENTER

The BJP International Photography Award has no theme. Photographs can be captured in any format, film or digital, and can be of any style or genre. Anyone can enter, amateur or professional, from the UK or abroad. The Award consists of two separate categories – the first of which recognises a coherent body of work, the second of which recognises a single image.

Photographers are welcome to enter both competitions, and to enter more than one body or work or image. The deadline for entry to both competitions is 2pm, 05 October 2009.

To enter a body of work

Submit a series of between 12 and 30 images on CD, together with an entry form and a fee of £25 (also payable in Euros or US dollars, priced €30 or $40).

Cheques must be payable to Incisive Photographic Ltd and the submission sent to British Journal of Photography, Incisive VNU, 32-34 Broadwick Street, London W1A 2HG. You may also pay by submitting your credit card details. Please include your security code (the three digit number on the back of your card)

Submitted images should be 300dpi

To enter a single image

You will be asked to submit the £5 fee (also payable in Euros or US dollars, priced €6 or $8) via PayPal and will then be able to upload a single image plus text and contact details.

Uploaded images should be 72dpi and 1200 pixels on their longest edge. Images should be between 3MB and 5MB in size. However images should be available at 300dpi for exhibition at the AOP. Photographers are welcome to submit more than one image, but must pay and upload separately for each.

Photographers who wish to enter more than one image must complete this procedure for each one.

Rules of entry

The images can be shot in any format, using any camera model, on film or digital. If you are entering a series of images, please indicate the viewing order, if appropriate. Please label each image with surname_firstname01/02/03 as appropriate. Full contact details should also be inserted into the pull-down-file information box, for example at File>File Info in Photoshop.

Captions or a short text can be included with the photographs. Please include this as a Word document with the CD or fill in the appropriate box in the upload area. Please make clear to which image each piece of text refers. The text can be a maximum of 200 words long per image.

The final judging will take place shortly after the deadline. The winner must be available to supply image for exhibition printing between 28 September and 09 October. The successful entrant will be asked to discuss the prints with Spectrum Photographic, and their exhibition plans with the BJP. Digital files of all the winning images will be created for press and publicity purposes.

The successful entries will be displayed for one working week at the AOP Gallery in November 2009. There will be an evening launch of the show. Please note the AOP will take 30% commission on any sales.

The winners may have the loan of 50x60cm frames for the duration of the exhibition. Printing of the exhibition will be output to these frames and mounting costs will be met by BJP.

BJP, the AOP and Spectrum Photographic cannot be responsible for any loss or damage to submitted work.

BJP and the AOP reserve the right to display, reproduce and publish in any media, any entry, without payment, for the sole purpose of the BJP International Photography Award and exhibition – this year and in future – and its promotion and publicity. No copyright is transferred to the BJP or the AOP in respect of any works entered or accepted. Each entrant will be deemed to warrant they own the entire copyright for the work or that they have permission from the licensee and/or copyright owner/s for the uses and that all necessary model releases and clearances have been obtained.

All relevant clearances must have been obtained for the use of the photographs for publication and exhibition.

The organisers are not responsible for any loss or damage to images, whether or not caused by their negligence. BJP advises entrants to ensure they have copies, or that their insurance covers any eventualities.

Entries from photographers living outside the UK are very welcome, however the winner must meet their own costs for travel and accommodation if they wish to oversee the printing, hanging and opening of the exhibition. E&O – errors and omissions.
