Conference call for metadata to include copyright
The second International Photo Metadata conference, which aims to promote metadata use in order to protect copyright owners, will take place in June.
Organised by the International Press Telecommunications Council and the news publishing research group IFRA, the conference will form part of the Coordination of European Picture Agencies Press Stock Heritage's annual congress. It will address key issues such as using flexible vocabularies when describing photographs, applying workflow software and its consequences, and different methods of copyright protection.
'It is important that metadata provides information about each picture and the copyright owner,' says Staffan Teste, chairman of the technical committe of Cepic. 'It is more and more difficult to prove who is the right copyright owner when there is a dispute and the matter turns up in court.'
The conference will bring together users, from freelance photographers to photo editors, and camera and software manufacturers. It will be held in Malta on 05 June. For more information, visit www.iptc.org.
