The second Syngenta Photography Award is now open for entries and explores the theme of scarcity and waste. In a world of limited resources, these have become fundamental social, political and economic issues of our times.

The Syngenta Photography Award is a celebration of artistic skill and brilliant photography. It is a call for photographs that tell stories about scarcity, waste and the tensions between them. Photographers, whatever their approach, are invited to submit images that explore these important issues, to spark a dialogue about our changing planet.

The Award invites professional and amateur photographers from all over the world to submit applications in two categories – the Professional Commission and the Open Competition. The Award prize totals $65,000 which includes a $25,000 professional commission for the first prize winner in the professional category to develop a photography project around the theme of the year. An exhibition will be held at Somerset House in London in March 2015, featuring the work of the finalists for the Award as well as images that illustrate the themes that have emerged from the submissions.

Entries will be judged by a distinguished international judging panel chaired by the author and curator William A. Ewing. “I am delighted to have been invited to chair the jury sessions for the second edition of the Syngenta Photography Award,” said Mr Ewing. Other members of the jury include Iatã Cannabrava, Stephen Dunbar-Johnson, Ekaterina Inozemtseva, Karen Irvine, Marcus Lyon, Mike Mack and Liu Heung Shing. Simon Roberts and Malu Halasa will act as advisors to the jury for the Open Competition.

Applications to the Syngenta Photography Award must be submitted by completing the online application form at www.syngentaphoto.com. There are no entry fees. The deadline for submissions is September 15, 2014.
